Nigel Carden
Chairman, Thomas Miller P&I
Nigel is Chairman of the Board of Thomas Miller P&I Ltd, with responsibility for overseeing the management and operations of the UK P&I Club, and representing the Club at the International Group Managers meetings.
He joined Thomas Miller in 1981, working initially in a claims syndicate, before taking on the roles of Director of Thomas Miller P&I, Syndicate Manager, and Deputy Chairman and then Chairman of Thomas Miller P&I.
His expertise and experience include the Club’s Rules, Environmental Liability, recommendations on Club Policy in relation to numerous industry issues, Loss Prevention and Captive Reinsurance.
Nigel chairs the International Group (IG) committees on Competition, Maritime Security and Ships’ Standards, as well as the IG’s LNG Working Group. He also represents the IG as an industry expert on the BIMCO Safety & Security Committee.
Nigel is an Adjudicator for the IACS Independent Appeal Board and a member of the International Quality Assessment Review Body (IQARB). He is a former director of ITOPF and a trustee of its DB pension scheme.
