Insight-driven incident prevention

Learning from the past can change the future. We encourage Members to proactively identify and prevent future incidents by commissioning our free of charge safety assessments on their entered ships. The programme is completely separate to our condition surveys and is voluntary.

Our twin-track auditing approach combines industry-wide experience with personalised knowledge of our Members’ fleets. Every year the Club handles thousands of claims. This experience has informed the development of our in-house inspection programme to target the risks that often cause incidents.

These are based on seven main areas:

  • Personal injury
  • Pollution
  • Cargo
  • Accident response
  • Navigation
  • Machinery & equipment
  • Security

We use this knowledge alongside analysing Members’ claims records so that assessments are tailored to a vessel’s incident profile.

Our risk assessors are ex-masters or chief engineers who have worked across a broad range of vessels. They analyse reporting data within the context of real-world operations and can also explain safeguarding recommendations directly to crew so that teams fully understand how to make improvements.
