The use of alternative marine fuels are integral to achieving the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) ambitious regulatory requirements to reduce total GHG emissions from shipping by 50% compared to 2008 levels by 2050 and to reduce the carbon intensity of shipping by at least 40% by 2030. New fuels are also required to meet different regional and domestic environmental mandates.
Managing the energy transition is one of the shipping industry’s most prolific changes. In the early stages of this journey, there are multiple considerations across all fuel types including viability, maritime safety, availability and cost. With no clear agreement on a preferred fuel choice, we assess the considerations across a range of fuel types (and clean technology solutions) to help Members make informed choices and plan their transition safely.
Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMII)
A ground-breaking collaboration led by SafetyTech Accelerator that unites industry leaders, tech innovators, and maritime stakeholders, all working together to advance technologies that monitor, measure and mitigate methane emissions in the maritime sector.
We are proud to be an anchor partner of this initiative.
