The UK P&I Club held a Webinar on the subject of Mooring operations.
Webinar: Mooring Operations
Hosted by Capt Anuj Velankar, the webinar featured Capt Sanchay Srivastava of OCIMF and Capt Ivan Todorov of Brookes Bell. The discussion focused on three key aspects of mooring operations and safety:
- Mooring Equipment Guidelines (MEG4): The impact of MEG4 on mooring operations, from design to rope selection and operation, including compliance challenges for existing vessels,gap analysis of MEG3 & MEG4 along with issues like snap-back zones.
- Practical Aspects: Maintenance of mooring machinery and inspection of mooring ropes and wires, with detailed discussions on inspection and discarding practices as per MEG4 guidelines.
- Collaborative Efforts: How OCIMF, Classification societies, IMO, and shipyards are working together to prioritize the human element in building mooring stations, equipment, and ropes.
The webinar included short presentations from the panelists, followed by an interactive Q&A session and live polls on C/P dispute scenarios. 2350 registrations from 78 countries attended this webinar.

Webinar: Mooring Safety – The “After-Hour”
Following the main webinar, a bonus session was held to discuss practical challenges in mooring operations. Hosted by Capt Anuj Velankar, the panel included Capt Deepak Gupta (Anglo Eastern Shipmanagement), Capt Abhijith Balakrishnan (Scorpio India), and Capt Clint Bout (Hafnia).
