At their meeting on 3rd February 2020, the Directors reviewed the basis on which special war risks P&I cover could be made available to Members in accordance with the proviso to Rule 5E, and determined that this cover should be made available to Members for the 2020 policy year in accordance with the terms of the attached Directors' Resolution of 3rd February 2020.

With the IMO 2020 fuel regulations, and alongside that the Emission Control Area (ECA) regulations, currently at the forefront of everyone's mind, the California Air Resources Board(CARB) has felt it necessary to issue a reminder, Marine Notice 2020-1, to vessel operators that the California Fuel Regulations remain fully in force, and must be complied with. These regulations, applicable within 24 nautical miles of California's shore, require the use of distillate fuels with maximum 0.1% sulphur content and do not allow for the use of exhaust gas scrubbers or non-distillate fuels to meet compliance standards.

The last year has seen the Group continuing to build on the initiatives launched over the last couple of years under the chairpersonship of Hugo Wynn-Williams to improve and optimise the way in which shipowners benefit from the strengths and opportunities inherent in the mutual club and Group system.
Herniated discs, strains, sprains, inflammation, stiffness and tenderness are just some of the back pain symptoms reported to the UK Club due to heavy lifting and day to day shipboard activities.
In 2010 the International Group launched the P&I Qualification (P&IQ) programme as a dedicated professional qualification providing high quality, sector-specific training in all aspects of P&I insurance to Club employees. The course allows candidates to gain valuable knowledge of the shipping industry, the origins and operation of P&I Clubs and the different types of liabilities insured. Two years after making the course available to Club correspondents, in October 2017, registration is now being opened to all other interested parties.
