The International Group Clubs recognise that the 2020 Global Sulphur Cap presents important challenges to the shipping industry and are closely monitoring discussions at the IMO.
INTERTANKO have recently received reports from Members in relation to uncharted terminals in China ports. Hydrographic inaccuracies and the non-marking of existing terminals on charts pose serious navigational risks and prevent ship Masters from carrying out proper passage planning and risk assessment.
The Club reports a case of a crew member recently repatriated following a period of insomnia and heart palpitations.
Risk Focus: Burns

Burns are bad news wherever they occur, but when they happen at sea, remote from shore medical facilities, the consequences can be grave.
The Club have been advised of Member vessels being detained by the Indonesian Navy whilst anchored in Indonesian territorial waters. Many of these detentions are occurring in vessels anchored in waters around the island of Bintan, in the Eastern portion of the Singapore Straits.
Venezuelan Sanctions - Designations against PdVSA
At their meeting on 28th January 2019, the Directors reviewed the basis on which special war risks P&I cover could be made available to Members in accordance with the proviso to Rule 5E, and determined that this cover should be made available to Members for the 2019 policy year in accordance with the terms of the attached Directors' Resolution of 28th January 2019.

The third edition of "Guidelines on Cyber Security Onboard Ships" has recently been published to provide the maritime industry with updated and enhanced guidance on managing cyber related risks. The new version 3 addresses the requirement to incorporate cyber risks in the ship's Safety Management System and reflects a deeper experience with risk assessments of operational technology (OT) - such as navigational systems and engine controls. Additional guidance for dealing with the cyber risks to the ship arising from parties in the supply chain is also included.
