OCIMF "Recommendations on Usage of ECDIS and Preventing Incidents"

In November 2020, OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum) published "Recommendations on Usage of ECDIS and Preventing Incidents" regarding the use of ECDIS.

It provides guidance to enhance policies and procedures for the safe use of ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System). This guideline is based on the ECDIS-related navigational incident findings and safety-related observations by OCIMF's SIRE (Ship Inspection Report Program). To provide practical support and guidance, the information paper draws upon this analysis to provide recommendations for improving ECDIS-related practices and preventing ECDIS-related navigational incidents. The main content covers ECDIS carriage requirements, ECDIS training and familiarisation, passage planning, and alarm management.
