Tsakos and UK P&I Club gain victory for shipowners as $73M Judgment in Maritime Case Upheld by SCOTUS
The UK Club's network partners, the International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN), have issued the following advice for seafarers and shipping companies on coronavirus.
The Club's local correspondents in Turkey have issued an important Circular advising that Turkish customs officers have been boarding vessels at random to check/ measure bunker quantities on board in order to verify declared bunker quantities in vessels' pre-arrival documents. These checks are being carried out under Turkey's Anti-Smuggling Code (Law numbered 5607). Under Article 3/1 of the Code, any individual found to have imported goods into Turkey in disregard of the customs procedures shall be punished by a prison term of between 1 to 5 years, in addition to a monetary fine of up to 10,000 days*. USCG - Novel Coronavirus update

The US Coast Guard issued Marine Safety Information Bulletin MSIB 02-20 (Change 1) entitled 'Novel Coronavirus - Update'. Among other things, it states that the Coast Guard considers it a hazardous condition under 33 CFR 160.216 if a crewmember who was in Iran or China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau) within the past 14-days is brought aboard the vessel during transit. This requires immediate notification to the nearest Coast Guard COTP. (3/9/20)

In response to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, this Guidance has been produced by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) to support all types of ships which operate in international waters. The purpose is to help shipping companies follow advice provided by United Nations agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), as well as the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
