Some charterers are seeking to introduce a clause that is potentially prejudicial to owners P&I cover. It seeks to impose responsibility upon an owner for all P&I liabilities even where the charterer is wholly at fault and bars any recourse claims against those charterers. Members are advised to refuse such clauses or face a significant uninsured liability

Ivory Coast ports closure - 14th April

Conversation this morning with our colleagues at Budd Abidjan confirmed that Ivory Coast major ports (Abidjan and San Pedro) remained shut for the time being. Activity has not resumed yet and until the calm will come back, it will not be safe for the people to move to the Ports - Furthermore, no ships have entered the port and in this area, no fighting occurred.

UK Club seminar in Istanbul - 13th April

On 13th April, the UK P&I and UK Defence Clubs hosted a joint seminar at the Moda Yacht Club in Istanbul which focused on topical risk and liability issues for their Members and the wider shipping community. After the seminar a cocktail reception was held for the participants and their wives and partners.
The ports of Chiba, Kashima, Onahama and Sendai have reported damage and interruption to a number of their terminals. Individual details on terminal damage and/or interruption as at 13th April 2011 are set out below.
