World Mental Health Day 2017 falls on Tuesday 10th October. The day provides an opportunity for all the major stakeholders working on mental health topics to showcase their work, and highlight the gaps which prevent a positive mental health care environment Worldwide.
This partly laden tanker was proceeding inbound along a narrow river channel with a pilot on board. The transit was taking place in the early morning hours on a flood tide. Shortly before entering a stretch of the channel with occupied river berths, the pilot ordered the vessel's speed to be reduced from full ahead to half ahead.

Carriage of Bauxite

IMO warn of new hazards associated with the carriage of bauxite cargo
A crew member recently suffered a serious head injury after a slip and fall down some stairs onboard. This resulted in him being in Intensive Care for a month followed by surgery. After his medical repatriation back to the Philippines, he required further surgery and a rigorous plan of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation.
World Maritime Day is formally celebrated by the IMO today (28th September) and the theme for this year is "Connecting Ships, Ports and People".
